Gift of a Life Time

I attribute this short story to my friend Chocolate.

Chocolate always believes in teaching how to fish than to fish. Chocolate regards this as survivial essential.

Most unforgettable memory entrenched in Chocolate's memory bank was when Chocolate taught Daughter how to cycle.

Daughter's first attempt with cycling started a 4-wheel ride.

Subsequently, Chocolate lifted 2-wheels slightly above ground level to get Daughter going on. Chocolate never fail to push from the back as a support.

As Chocolate pushed, Chocolate said: "Don't worry my dear. I am always supporting you behind."

Daughter peddled happily forward.

One day, Chocolate decided to let go of his usual support-push. Chocolate softly deactivated the other 2-wheels. Daughter cycled ahead without realising that Chocolate was far away from the bicycle.

Daughter screamed at Chocolate: "Dad, don't push so fast! Let go and stop pushing me so fast!"

Cholcolate replied: "My dear, I'm not pushing. I'm far away from pushing."

Daughter turned back and surprised that she had actually cycled on her own for a distance.

Of course, she fell. But Daughter picked up cycling for life after that.

Chocolate shared with me - that it always warms Chocolate's heart to know that there's something Chocolate has given Daughter the gift that would last for a lifetime.

Lessons aside, as Daughter grows and picks up cycling again, Daughter would recall her journey of experience shared with Chocolate, and that when Chocolate dies, Daughter has something to remember for life.

My heart ache a bit, and I thought, what greater gift than this to give experiences and meanings to life for the child.

Chocolate must really love Daughter. Will Daughter treasure the precious gift when she grows up and marry one day with family of her own?

I believe the title says it all - what most of us feel it sparks in our hearts - "Gift of Lifetime".

It is easier to forgive than to forget. Even more so when someone uses non-monetary efforts while shaping growth. This is about life, guidance, bond - i reckon, all the more will Chocolate's goodwill entrenched in Daughter's preciously secret chamber - that is, her heart.

Living in a world where change is the only constant, one thing that would not be able to change despite how hard we may try is - memory, good or bad.

It is these moments (and memories) that shape our future, our thinkning, our lives, and of course, we stand not to live in vain.
